Let's Get To It...
What inspired you to join SMPS and what are you hoping to get out of your membership?
My supervisor suggested I join a professional organization, and I had always heard such great things about SMPS. I’m hoping to continue to learn and grow, both professionally and personally.
What has been the most valuable part of your membership so far?
The marketing staff of my company is spread all over the country, so it’s been extremely rewarding to be able to meet new people in the industry and talk to them face-to-face.
What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?
The New Member Breakfast! I had joined SMPS a few months prior and had passively attended a number of events, but the New Member Breakfast really inspired me to get involved on a deeper level. I signed up for Guru Guidance after that, and was paired with a wonderful mentor who has been a real source of advice and encouragement.
What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?
Educate – as much as you may think you know about a certain topic or subject, there’s always something more you can learn. SMPS has so many members who come from different backgrounds and perspectives that there’s always something new they can teach you.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned through SMPS (an event, speaker, or fellow member)?
Just how connected everything and everyone is in the industry. As marketers, nothing we do exists in a vacuum – we’re constantly impacted by things outside of our control, so it’s extremely important to grow relationships with people both inside and outside of our individual firms.
Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?
Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself!
