The Children’s Inn at NIH provides temporary housing for families whose children are receiving groundbreaking treatments at the NIH Building 10 Clinical Center. Many travel from afar, often arriving tired and ready for a meal. Earlier this month, SMPS DC members hosted a family dinner and had the opportunity to meet, mingle, and interact with these families.

Sticking with the fiesta theme we hosted at the Inn last March, our SMPS DC volunteers served a dinner catered by Baja Fresh Mexican Grill. With approximately 50 children and their families in attendance, a craft corner was added where children could make homemade miniature piñatas. These were a hit, with no long sticks or high ropes needed to bust them open.

Speaking to some of the parents and learning about their child’s journey was unbelievably heartwarming. Faced with some of life’s hardest challenges at such a young age, all while still managing to have a smile on their face, inspired us all. I look forward to returning to The Children’s Inn next year for our spring family dinner!
