Let's Get To It...
What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?
I was lucky to be hired by the wonderful Debra Hare as a summer Marketing Intern at GeoConcepts. I thought it would just be temporary position but they ended up bringing me on as permanent hire. 10 years later I’m still here thanks to exceptional mentors within and outside the company. I love my team and company – they are like family! I knew early on I was working for a special company just through swapping stories with my friends – I’m thankful every day for being here.
When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?
I joined in 2007 during my internship since my boss, Debra, had been a longtime member when she was in the AEC industry. She encouraged me to volunteer and get involved, which led to many lifelong friendships. It’s a truly wonderful community to be a part of.
What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?
Definitely get on a committee and consider joining the Board if you find something you love! In addition to networking and bonding with your industry colleagues, it’s also a great way to gain skills and experience in areas you might normally not get exposure to in your day-to-day job.
What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?
I love the Kick Off event which I’m excited is coming up Sept 12th! It’s like the first day of school when you get to catch up with all your friends on what they’ve been up to over the summer.
Do you have your CPSM? If so, why did you get it and how has it impacted your career?
No CPSM yet!
