Let’s Get To It……
What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?
My father had me working in a construction trailer when I was in college, which transitioned into an admin role at Sverdrup (now Jacobs) which led to a marketing coordinator position when I graduated from college. What keeps me in the industry are the people that I work with on a daily basis and my network. I have been very fortunate to work with great people at great companies.
When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?
I joined SMPS in the early 1990’s upon the recommendation of my boss at the time. She said it would be a good place to start building my network. And I would meet great people who will become great friends. She was absolutely right on both points.
What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?
Get involved! Get involved in a committee. Even if it is on a committee that is not a top interest you will still meet and work with great people.
What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?
The SMPS DC Past President Dinner in September 2022 and the 40th anniversary party for the DC Chapter. It was wonderful seeing friends that I haven’t seen in several years at both events. It reinforced why I have stayed a member of SMPS.
Do you have your CPSM? If so, why did you get it and how has it impacted your career?
No, I do not have my CPSM and not having it has not hurt my career.
What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?
Connect. Connecting with people is very important and critical to our success and our companies’ success. The best way to grow your career and be successful is by connecting with people.
What is your favorite SMPS DC memory?
It is a three-way tie between receiving the Golden Tuba, the SMPS DC Past Presidents Dinner and the DC Chapter’s 40th Anniversary Party. All three are favorite memories because of the people involved.
Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?
Don’t ask someone to do a task that you are not willing to do yourself.
