Shake off the day, stretch your legs and breathe in the fresh, approaching autumn air with fellow SMPS DC members. Join us for a relaxed walk through Kingman and Heritage Islands, a unique natural oasis alongside the evolving RFK Campus and Anacostia waterfront. As the area undergoes a major transformation—including a new stadium, mixed-use development, housing, parks and improved connections to the waterfront—we'll explore the landscape and the unique ecosystems that are part of its future.
What you’ll learn:
Get to know your SMPS colleagues while exploring Kingman and Heritage Islands through a self-guided habitat tour. Along the way, learn about tidal wetlands, wildlife habitats, the Anacostia watershed and the history of the islands while gaining a closer look at an area undergoing significant development and planning.
